There's a band, apparently from California, called Inna Rude Mood--- they're sort of a rockabilly power trio with a slightly punk edge.? They do a pretty good version of "Sex and Beer", which is available for download at the URL below.? It's very Buddy-Hollyish (the opening riff is lifted directly from "Peggy Sue").? On their website, they do credit Pat as the composer of the song, although they describe him as "some dude gigging around the east coast [!] who performs with an acoustic guitar".? ?This is only the 2nd cover version of a Pat song I've ever heard (the first was a guitar player on State Street in Madison who did "Screw You"), and the only one I know of that's available for download.? Check it out:?

It's nice that it's been covered, but it just doesn't have the "pat-juice" that only The Master can provide.

I still don't understand how they say he's an "East Coast" guy.

Odd!

You know it is only a matter of time before Monkey Paw gets the same treatment.  Sex and Beer is a staple for college students nationwide...but I know that Monkey Paw will become an earworm for people of all ages...I know I would remember this song if I were a little kid.  It only took one night to get it stuck in my head for months.  I even converted the damn thing to a ringer on my phone.  All of a sudden...we'll hear Bon Jovi doing a cover of Monkey Paw.

From their website:

"They released a CD of original songs in late 2003 that proved they were best suited to continue imitating music written by better song writers. The CD can be downloaded for free on this website."

That's funny...  I say we bombard their e-mail suggesting they improve the credit they give Pat from "some dude gigging around the East Coast".  And also if they don't cover "Monkey Paw" we will refuse to go see them.

I'd say let us get them to correct their geography lessons.  It could be they just think Wisconsin is on the East Coast. *ducks*   Mayhap they think Lake Michigan was the ocean, and thus Pat would be gigging on the east coast... of the lake?

Yup.  All burned with a pretty little cover piece.  Me and choir will be at Coins tonight and will give it to him then.

As for what they said on their website, they changed it.

Pat McCurdy performs regularly in the midwest and, similar to Jim Jones, leads a loyal cult-like following of rabid fans who police internet sites and insist that Pat's name always be presented with the respect and reverence due to such a supreme leader and luminary of acoustic-guitar-driven bar tunes. ;-)

I like it.  But I don't like to consider myself "rabid."  Well, aside from in the morning.
