No I think it is the encoding.  I think mark used winamps mp3 output plugin.  It's not the greatest encoder I believe and a cheap encoder will have pops and stuff.

Hmm...I guess I've never had that problem. I know cheap encoders will impart a "swishy" sound, especially at lower bitrates, but I've never noticed/had a problem with pops/clicks. Especially not like those on the MP3s...

Mark?

I believe the real problem was that I simply had the levels set a tad too high.  It was my first experiment in encoding an mp3 directly from the line-in, rather than recording a WAV first, then encoding.  I think the second show I did this with turned out a little better.

Methinks this one deserves to go on the FTP server! And, considering that both Mark and Greg are on telegraph, er, I mean modems, I'd be happy to upload it (HINT HINT)!
I think it should be up there too, but I didn't record the show.  Luckily, Greg did, and it's a good thing.  As soon as he slips me a copy, I'll bring it to work and upload it.

Hmmm I was at this show also and agree only one word can be used to describe it "AWESOME" when he played my two favorites Stumbling In The Dark and In Pursuit back to back (BTW set list is wrong   and then Hercules Unchained it was like "Wow!" plus made it like a live version of excerpts from the Sound of Music, and Good Life/Memorial Day CD's. Now we have been hearing Greg and mark were going to coordinate and post the tapes of the show. That was two weeks ago. Whats going on guys? you got a lot of fans logging on to the FTP server everyday to get this show and then,   every day, no show? When Is This Gonna Happen? (Sounds like a Pat song title hehe

Whoops! forgot to compliment Jessica's lovely singin, always a blessing and a treat, and the song that were played from Showtunes! Pat told me personally he wont do songs from that CD last Paragon show I was at when I was sober, never gave a reason cept to say "that stuff is too old, no one likes it". Well, it was good to finally hear those songs live. And finale was great too, even if it was the common "I don't Wanna Go Home" ohh well, intimate Pat doesn't nessesarily mean you can't have any common every show songs at all, or does it? LOL

I haven't heard from Greg since last Tuesday, but I know he was in a mad rush to simply get a few CD sets burned at that time. I know as of then he hadn't had the time to encode everything yet.

I'd rather Greg took his time (ie, used a better encoder for better sound) than rushed it just to get it up - I don't think it will kill any of us to wait a little while. Good things come to those who wait!

That's an odd thing to say...I've heard Napoleon's Penis a few times, as well as I Flipped A Coin. And of course I'm Going To Hell is a pretty common song...

That's interesting - the first thing I thought of was that it was mastered at a very *low* volume. When I was mastering my latest CD most of the MP3s were at about 0 dB or +1 dB, but the two I took from that show were +5 dB - obviously at quite a lower volume.

I took it right from my notes from the show.  I didn't think I screwed anything up.  Well, after we get a chance to hear this show again we can check this.  But then again there isn't a way to modify the set list.  So unless Mark wants to fix it then it'll stay the way it is.

The thing is that to get a perfect master at a live show is quite a task in itself and is always rewarding when it works out. But heres the thing, Pat sounds good anytime anywhere and anyhow, so little indescretions in sound quality can be forgiven due to the quality of the source. And hey, question? Where else you going to get it or hear it unless you bring your own recording equipment to the show? Nowhere. Thanks Greg and Luke and Mark for all your efforts, they are most appreciated.

actually, your right. Last Shank show in January he played both of those, Goin to hell I have not hear, soon maybe? But I have to say that the rendition of "She Stood Up" was A++++++ In my ears better than the studio version

I've done something?!

I've actually been thinking about recording some shows, but I can't say I've got the necessary (portable) equipment, and don't exactly feel like going and buying some just for this purpose. The problem is that if I were to buy say, a MD recorder, what else would I use it for except for recording Pat shows? For now I guess I'll just be compiling/mastering/burning stuff Mark and Greg record:-0

Good, looks like you guys figured out the "quote" thing now.  I thought for a minute that we were gonna have to go through another training session on UBB code.

just testing...

Hey it worked.  I don't remember HTML being on before.  Mark, did you turn that on recently or something?

I think the problem comes when you try to quote a quote - the board can't handle the two levels of quoting and screws everything up.

It looks like Mark *just* turned HTML on - I recall seeing that it was off yesterday (for whatever reason I had made a point of looking).
