Okay Mr. Pendantic, how about Variation on Black Cloud?  Happy, pappy?

Heh, I was just commenting that I couldn't hear it as the same, and knowing Pat's habit of reusing some chord progressions and occasional melodic themes at times who knows it if was even deliberate?

But that's just me.

All right, I just gave that old tape a listen and discovered that it's even closer to the CD version than Black Cloud is. ?Since the track was titled Midnite at the Ant Farm (a lot of them on this tape have wacky names), we'll just call it that from now on to keep Greg happy.

Curious? ?Listen to it right now.

I'd still love a version of Black Cloud in this style, though.

Our Song of Love?Another great song the first time I heard it, and this is really produced. Did we even know Pat could play that many instruments at once? And back up vocals certainly do a testament to those ultra dedicated friends of Pat who really made what we are discussing possible.

I remember when that song used to be the Hett/Zaffrann/McCurdy Love song!!

What the heck?? Did everyone here stray that far off topic of reviewing the new CD that we needed to be reminded of what was really the initial topic of this post?? Shocked

I've decided my favorite part of the entire CD is the brief but haunting instrumental version of Black Cloud at the end. ?Damn, how I wish he had done the whole song.

I LOVE THAT SONG!!!! (I don't know why because it's rather depressing and sort of reminds me of my life at times, but maybe that's a good thing in some sort of haunting way!  :-/ )

All right, Briguy, I'll lead back to the original topic...I can't believe in your attempt to analyze EVERYTHING, that you forgot to comment on what I believe is the best track on the CD, track 4, "My World of Love".  The one song symbolizes every reason Pat wanted to enhance his recently well-received songs with studio production.  It's so fantastic.  Starting off with that simple piano sample, building up to the addition of the guitar and the best harmonizing backups on the CD ("Big ole moon shines down from up above..."), guitar getting faster, then belting out that third "LOVE!!!", the progression is like someone taking a simple walk, then spotting a hill, and running up it, hill becomes mountain, and that "LOVE", where, when done live, audience members still burst into applause no matter how many times they hear it, is the peak, after that it's a merry frolic back down to simplicity, but it's not a rapid decent, there's so many enhancers, it just coasts down back to the simple guitar.  The fun of the studio is that all the enhancement is so overpowering, it seems like Pat's voice comes off tough, like he wants to really say, "there's beautiful people, and they all want to fuck us!!", but the enhancers keep him in line and under control.  It's just too much fun.  I really like the metaphor of the song being a journey up and down a hill, and I enjoy the mountain Pat climbed to make this song, and this CD.  Thoughts?

Well... How bout that, where I copied the track listing from at the time on this very site is missing the most important title track...anyhow...

I am going to agree with G's review of the song. It is a song like "idiot" that Pat has been playing at just about every show and has a certain amount o emotion and feel you just don't find nowadays on a Nora Jones or 50 cent CD. I might even suggest John Mayer take a few lessons but in his defense, three years of peddling an album to finally have a few hits and a grammy is allowable.

Lets just thank the stars Pat never covered "Big Yellow Taxi" as good as that might be, I would hate to see our favorite local artist overplayed on a Milwaukee Radio Station  Wink

Have I told you lately that I love you?

That song is so cool.  With all the synthesized instruments and drums.  And it most definitely sounds like this was what he was going for on the CD.  Thanks Mark for hooking us up with this bit of history.

Well now we can put the issue of what the name of the instrumental track is to rest. At the show last night during the break there was a conversation between Sarah and Pat that went like this:
S- Pat, we need you to clear up a little Pat Site problem.
P- Ok, what?
S- The Instumental part at the end of the CD... Is that called Midnight at the Ant Farm?
P- Yes. (pause) How the hell did they figure that out?
S- Lippert had a tape.
P- Oh... That figures.

Granted, that's not verbatim, but it's damn close.
So there you have it, straight from the man himself. He even played about 30 seconds of it to start the second half. Wheee!

Damn and I missed it.  He forgot about the power of Lip.  Seems like anytime Pat makes a reference to something obscure at a show, you can count on Mark and/or Patty to know what it is.
